As we enter this season of giving at Great Lakes Bay Animal Society, we want to share with you our year in review. It's been an amazing 2025 with many rescues and adoptions and our hearts are full of gratitude.
FAST & FURRIEST 2025
We started the year planning our 12th annual Fast & Furriest 5K Run/Walk and it turned out to be one of our best years to date. We had record attendance with over 300 participants including humans and their dog companions, who enjoyed a beautiful spring day at Midland City Forest.
Our 2026 event is being planned right and you can REGISTER TODAY.
VOLUNTEERS & FOSTERS
This year we welcomed several new volunteers, board members and foster families. Many have taken on much-needed roles to help GLBAS run smoothly. We are thankful for every one of them! We encourage you to become a VOLUNTEER as we are always looking for new volunteers to fill a variety of roles. Also, you can join us as a FOSTER hero. By fostering an animal, you can make a real difference in their lives on their journey to adoption.
KITTEN SEASON WAS BUSY IN 2025
Spring and summer were busy with kitten season. Many mom cats and kittens are now enjoying life inside with their new families after going through our foster program. We also welcomed several dogs into foster care. Most recently, two middle-aged dogs arrived after losing their human unexpectedly.
We have SO MANY rescue stories; we can't possibly share them all here. However, we do have one overwhelmingly happy story that we just have to share: TUX.
JOURNEY TO ADOPTION FOR "TUX"
Tux arrived in GLBAS foster care after he was found with a pellet gun wound to his leg. He had to have his leg amputated as a result. He is pain free now and living his life inside with his new family. GLBAS was fortunate enough, thanks to donors and supporters, to have the funds immediately available to help Tux find his way to recovery and a better life.
Tux's story is just one of the many that required extensive medical care this year. We currently have several other fosters that are receiving medical care and on the road to healing for future adoption.
